| Project Code name | Ceramic |
| Project Title | Automated Catalyst Wrapping Station |
| Abstract | Davico Mfg is a family owned business that produces more than 1,000 different models of direct fit catalytic converters. Part of their production process involves wrapping a fiberglass fabric around a honeycombed ceramic cylinder and stuffing them both in steel piping. This process has been identified as a bottleneck, limiting the amount of product able to be produced. The goal of this project is to design, prototype, and test a machine which automates this process. The factory’s current hand wrapping process takes approximately 25 seconds per piece. This project seeks to reduce that time to between 10-15 seconds per piece. |
